Prioritization of olive breeding objectives in Spain: Analysis of a producers and researchers survey

Aim of study: Trait prioritization potential olive (Olea europaea L.) breeding objectives has been evaluated in this work from two surveys to researchers working on and producers / orchard managers.Area Olive growing area Andalusia (South Spain)Material methods: Twenty-five were associated plant growth, fructification, oil content composition, resistance pest disease tolerance soil climatic conditions. Two assessment methods applied (ranking rating), showing similar results both the surveys.Main results: Higher productivity was objective with highest score, followed by Verticillium wilt higher content. After them, water stress Xylella fastidiosa among preferred objectives. Conversely, least late harvesting, high fruit size lodging calcareous soils. In producers’ survey, have consistent different types orchards farmers’ characteristics. It is also interesting notice that more than 50% expressed their willingness enlargement or renewal three coming years 25% them would change cultivar. They be willing pay an average 43% overprice for new cultivar fulfilling requirements 75% support use genetic modified olives.Research highlights: These should considered analyze scope current programs define main criteria future works aiming at developing cultivars.
